I have to take off my hat to DD, I really didn’t think she was going to do it. Just shy of 19k words, a target of 24k and 1 day left. I thought she’d get half way there and I’d be just as proud of her having done over 20k, but no, she plugged away (with plenty of additional prodding from me) and produced over 5k words in one day! That’s OVER FIVE THOUSAND WORDS IN ONE DAY! (It needed writing out in full and in bold). I am seriously, but seriously impressed!
See how impressed I am? I’m scattering exclamation marks around like a 10-year-old* with confetti !
*My English teacher always maintained that excessive use of exclamation marks was the preserve of excitable 10-year-old girls.
Of course, I’m entirely convinced that it is all proper writing. Not, as DH suggested, lots of “la la la la la” to make up the numbers, or chapters cut and paste and presented as deja vu, just because there was a tablet at stake if she finished. After all, it was her own target.
There is still a long way to go before she has a novel, though. NaNoWriMo has produced nine chapters, but there is plenty more writing and a lot of editing to do before the real finish line is reached. I’ve volunteered to help with the latter when she’s ready. She’s having a well-deserved rest today and plans to be back at it tomorrow, albeit at a less frenetic pace. Meanwhile, I’ll settle for basking in the warm glow of her success 😀
If nothing else, all this parental puffery allows me to completely ignore my own failure at NaKniSweMo. I stalled at 40k stitches, which is still a tidy number and both front and back are completed and the sleeves started. Mind you, I have been busy with other stuff too, not to mention the odd bit of frogging having been required where I’ve not quite got the gauge conversion right or, in my haste, lost track of increases. Unlike NaNoWriMo, if you produce rubbish, you can’t leave it until later to sort out and continue regardless.
Defensive? Moi? Move along, nothing more to see here!
