Panic and Mayhem

crash-positionsWell, it’s Black Friday and the masses are both seething and rampaging if the news is to be believed, with reports of punch-ups over TVs reminiscent of the kind of thing that used to happen in the January sales, or that bit in Airplane! where the passengers are told to assume crash positions and chaos ensues (see pic). My particular corner of the world seems to have largely avoided bothering with any of it and when I nipped out to collect something earlier, the high street was quiet with no evidence of this lunacy.

Balls and Glory

Yesterday, I spent a lovely, albeit very tiring day at Witchfest. It is the 11th year I’ve attended this event to do Tarot readings and I always leave feeling both energised and exhausted. This year, there were some lovely things on offer in the market hall and I was really taken by these “Orbs”. So much so, that once I’d picked them up, I found it quite difficult to put them down again, consequently, they came home with me:

Dangerous Owners

DexGreetings, fellow canines and your humans!

It’s been a while since I put claw to keyboard, but I’m not a happy doggie today and felt I should share the reason for my lack of gruntle and get your advice. Once again, I was attacked by a psychotic collie. This will be the fourth time the this dog has attacked me now and it really isn’t fair. I’m a good boy. I mind my own business, do as I’m told (because I love my humans and it makes them happy) and I have never done anything to provoke this kind of behaviour 🙁

I’d be happy if all battlefields looked (and tasted) like this 😀

For The Fallen

poppyToday is Remembrance Sunday, when we honour the sacrifice of those who have fallen in battle. I always have mixed feelings about this day. Although I mourn the passing of these brave (or hapless) souls, I can’t help but feel that they died in vain, ordered to their demise by those sitting comfortably behind desks, far removed from any danger, let alone in peril of their own lives and I feel sad and rather angry about that. The “War To End All Wars” and all the others that followed, their pain forgotten like that of childbirth by those who have no excuse for sending the next generation like lambs to slaughter.

Pumpkin It Up

pumpkinsIt’s been a while since I did a foodie post, mostly because it’s been a while since I did anything terribly new and interesting. I totally failed to grow anything this year (those beauties in the pic are from last year –>) and for the most part, I’ve just been cooking the usual (albeit fairly varied) dishes based on Sunday Roast leftovers with a few stock alternatives for variety. Of course, with a fairly warm Summer and mild Autumn up until recently, there has been a certain reluctance to slave over a hot stove.

Na…Na…Mo

image_mediumAs you may be aware if you follow this blog, I have previously attempted NaNoWriMo… successfully once and DD succeeded where I fell by the wayside another time. In fact, she then went on to also complete her target the following year and, after a year off, is going for it again this year with a target of 24k words. Not bad for an 11 year old! Puffs up with motherly pride.
