Casting On
In this first post for Knitting and Crochet Blog Week, we look at starting out.
Just got back from History Boot Camp. Well, “just got back” in the sense of: arrived, unpacked car and trailer, put stuff away, got some laundry on the go, had baths to scour off the grime and mud, got a curry in and tucked into a glass of wine in front of Foyle’s War. (This is being written in the breaks).
What a fab weekend! I’ve tried all sorts of things, brought back interesting things (and mud) and am totally exhausted. The weather was gorgeously warm and sunny, during the day, at any rate. The nights were still somewhat nippy, as you’d expect, but a good excuse for a roaring campfire.
Home-made bread is always irresistible, but today’s was positively heavenly, even if I do say so myself. Smoky baguettines, fresh from the oven, to accompany the griddled chicken and salad for dinner.
Not content with leaving the chocolate egg purchases until virtually the last minute (and missing out on the lovely big Lindt eggs), I’ve only just done the traditional Polish decorated eggs.
Admittedly, it has been some time since I actually did this – umm, more years than Oscar Wilde would recommend admitting to – but I thought it would be a fun thing to pass on to the younglings.
Last week was an interesting one and further proof for me of the fundamental interconnectedness of all things.
Hope you enjoyed the quiz. Tricky, wasn’t it! Bet you’ll kick yourself on a few LOL 😉
Here are the answers. I’ve included a couple of links for the more obscure ones. If you want more links, just let me know.
Fed up with the assumption of advertisers that motherhood automatically means that you like soppy, sentimental drivel when it comes to music, I have come up with my own music compilation for Mothers’ Day. To make it a little more fun, it is in quiz form 😀 (more…)
Yesterday was my daughter’s Victorian Day school trip to Reading Museum. I’d volunteered to go along and help herd some of the other little Victorian urchins (they don’t alllow you to be with your own child for some reason) and rather pushed the boat out regarding costume, as you might expect. (more…)
There’s no doubt about it. Despite the continuing cold and, in places, snowy weather, Spring is definitely on its way. The sun feels that little bit warmer when it is out, the days noticeably longer and I can feel the sap of creativity and enthusiasm rising within, banishing the urge to curl up and hibernate. Death may be ever-present, but the dominance of his long shadow and confident stride are receding in the face of the breaking dawn of new life.
I have stalled slightly on the Dee commemorative sock, named the Kitty Committee Sock. The pattern was pretty much finished, but when I came to do the cat cuff, I wasn’t happy with how it looked so need to rework the pattern. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) I have been very busy lately so it has fallen by the wayside slightly. However, I hope to be back on the case shortly. Meanwhile, here are some pics of the work so far…
