A Bit Less Mystery

image_mediumThe Autumn Mystery KAL I mentioned a couple of weeks ago is looking less mysterious now I have completed three-quarters of the pattern. Aside from regularly getting outwitted by where I’ve got to in the lace repeats, due to the usual distractions (dog, TV, offspring, DH, Farcebook), and then having to tink back when it becomes apparent that the pattern no longer lines up, it has all gone quite swiftly. I find myself finishing a Clue after a couple of days and then spending the next 4 or 5 drumming my fingers impatiently on the keyboard awaiting the next release.

Spoiler alert…

TW3

f6969d88As you may be aware, TW3 is the abbreviation applied to the 60’s satirical show That Was The Week That Was. (No, I’m not that old, but I am familiar with the show and have pinched the title for my week that was 🙂) Mind you, that was focused on current affairs and despite best efforts, I must admit that this particular week was back at the mid-end of July. Unfortunately, I never got around to posting it as the week and subsequent summer holidays were stupidly busy. So cast you mind back to the hot, stormy weather of the latter part of July… *cue wavy line effect*…

Epiphanies and Elephants

swords03 copyWelcome to the latest edition of the Tarot Blog Hop. The theme for this Mabon Blog Hop is to talk about a time when our understanding of the Tarot underwent a quantum leap, what brought about the change in our understanding of the Tarot and how we approach the Tarot differently than we did before the change. In other words “the things that I wished I knew about Tarot sooner than I learned them.”

I thought long and hard about whether to participate in this hop, since when it comes to Tarot, I can’t honestly say I’ve had any massive leaps in understanding, as such. No light on the road to Damascus, no divine revelations complete with angelic choirs and heavenly light, no epiphany, no OMGs, not even a blinding lightbulb moment. No, it’s been more of a process of gradual realisation. A realisation that there was an elephant (not necessarily a pink one) in the room and although it had been there all the time, I had just not noticed it. In short, the process has been more quantum creep than quantum leap, rather like the oft-unnoticed snail on the RWS 9 of Pentacles card.

One Step Forwards

image_mediumI jumped in and started the Autumn MKAL a few days ago and was was busy congratulating myself on how quickly I managed to finish the first clue…Except, then I realised that I’d misread the instructions for the short rows and so had to tink* back the last 4 rows and re-do them, plus the additional rows required to finish the short row section correctly *sigh*.  Still, the nice thing about the short row section is that they got progressively shorter and so it didm;t take me too long to finish Clue 1 (correctly, this time).

Pomes

strongbox2I was tidying the accumulated piles of paperwork and stuff doing a little sorting out today and stumbled on a poem I’d knocked off whilst at the V&A a couple of years ago.

The V&A have activity packs to make the business of looking at the exhibited objects a bit more entertaining and interactive. They get snapped up quite quickly so the choice can be limited and we ended up with one which directed us to the section dealing with keys and locks. The packs contain a number of activities, one of which was to write a poem inspired by one of the exhibits and offering a list of keywords.  The item in question was a large sea chest with a great many locks – a treasure chest, in other words.

It’s A Myshtery

60d2b8be8349ac34180e9fe98e6c40c4I haven’t blogged about knitting for a while…well, I haven’t really had much time to blog about anything over the summer season…but I have had my arm twisted been persuaded to participate in Susanna IC’s latest MKAL (Mystery Knit Along) and have been tempted to have a go at NaKniSweMo (National Knit a Sweater Month), which runs parallel to NaNoWriMo* (National Novel Writing Month) during November.

*(You may recall that I have participated that for two years – you can read about my efforts here).

Looking Back

cups05You may know that I read at a lot of Medieval and Historic Feativals and I’ve just returned from a 5-day stint at Leeds Castle, preceded by a couple of days at Herstmonceux. The latter was not a hectic event and I found myself having two slightly odd conversations about reading the past. Now this is curious because most Tarot “virgins” usually want to know about the future (will they succeed/win the lottery/find love/get better) and I spend a lot of time explaining about my approach not really being predictive in that sort of fortune-telling way*.

A Good Crop

PentaclesQueenWelcome to the latest edition of the Tarot Blog Hop. For this Lammas Hop, we have been asked to channel our inner Queen of Pentacles.

I must admit that, at first glance, this topic did not appeal to me at all, given that I identify more strongly with the Queen of Swords usually. However, the more I considered it, the more I realised that I have quite a hefty chuck of the old QoP in there, it’s just that I tend not to give her much recognition. She’s usually the one chained to the cooker while my other Queens are out having a good time: drinking, dancing, having a good time and waving their knickers in the air (metaphorically, at least). Pomposity and Circumstance

cernparticles1_11-02Although I have become a good deal more restrained in recent years, I am not one to shy away from speaking my mind, as many of you are probably aware. Thus, when something risibly inaccurate appears on my wall, I am sometimes moved to comment. In this instance, the assertion in an article that:

“The fourth dimension” is a short-hand term for the world of spirit and emotion and desire and vibration and feeling and intuition and imagination. It’s all the unseen stuff that can have the power to dramatically affect the seen.”

Now, strike me with a wet kipper, but I could have sworn that the fourth dimension was Time*. Certainly, that was what they taught me on my Physics degree course, but hey, what do actual scientists know compared to New Agers, who apparently have an entirely new definition for the word “dimension”, other than as a quantifiable measurement, not to mention regarding Time as being something that is defined in terms of the unquantifiable.

Q: How tall are you?
A: Ecstatic
